Blurb Description: The princess didn't expect to fall in love--with her nemesis.
Princess Sepora of Serubel is the last Forger in all the five kingdoms. The spectorium she creates provides energy for all, but now her father has found a way to weaponize it, and his intentions to incite war force her to flee from his grasp. She escapes across enemy lines into the kingdom of Theoria, but her plans to hide are thwarted when she is captured and placed in the young king's servitude.
Tarik has just taken over rulership of Theoria, and must now face a new plague sweeping through his kingdom and killing his citizens. The last thing he needs is a troublesome servant vying for his attention. But mistress Sepora will not be ignored. When the two finally meet face-to-face, they form an unlikely bond that complicates life in ways neither of them could have imagined.
Sepora's gift could save Tarik's kingdom from the Quiet Plague. But should she trust her growing feelings for her nemesis, or should she hide her gifts at all costs?
Truth be told, if I only judged books by their covers, this would not be very appealing. I now know that the cover holds certain references in the book that you need to read to get, and while I do appreciate it more, I think it could have been better done!

Despite that, the whole princess falling in love with her enemy trope is one that SINCERELY appeals to me, and I NEEDED to read it, and sign up for the blog tour!

Princess Sepora is the last living forger known to her entire Kingdom. A “living” metal, Spectorium is used to power anything, to forge anything and is a highly sought after trading commodity.

And Sepora was fine with being the last Forger, fine with being useful until her father decides to wage war on the other kingdoms on their continent – with Spectorium. So, she runs. Runs away to her father’s enemy kingdom, to live among the “Baseborn” Class, a place where her father will never find her.

Until she’s captured and somehow her luck leaves in the King’s Harem, a concubine for the new king’s entertainment.

Tarik is the Falcon Prince, a pharaoh living in an Anna Banks’ rendition on Ancient Egypt where the dead are buried under Spectorium Pyramids that help keep their bodies alive. After his father died and he assumes the responsibility of King, he finds it hard to consider himself a worthwile ruler, and cannot be bothered with everyday mundane disputes, only the more pressing concerns.
Until Sepora runs out the Harem and into his arms, and the girl with the silver eyes and white blond hair changes his life.

If there is one thing I REALLY liked about Nemesis it is that it was about ACTUAL governance of kingdoms, more than pining or rebellion. It showed the read intricacies of dealing with a kingdom, not just mentioning them in passing. It had its rulers morally question themselves, change the systems, question old and redundant traditions and about the hardships and necessities of ruling over a land.

Unfortunately, there were also things I didn’t like such as the AWKWARD dialogue between characters, the lack of chemistry that I felt between Sepora and Tarik, the WEIRD names (is Sepora the make-up brand Sephora? And what is Theoria? And Parani) that sounded so strange, and derivative of brands of words like theory. There was also a scene with GLORIFIED TALKING FISH and negotiating treaties that I did not get but GAH.

All in all, a book worth a one-time read! 3 stars.

I live with my husband and daughter in the Florida Panhandle. I have a southern accent compared to New Yorkers, and I enjoy food cooked with real fat. I can’t walk in high heels, but I’m very good at holding still in them. If you put chocolate in front of me, you must not have wanted it in the first place.
