Blogaversary Day 6: Don't Get Caught by Kurt Dinan - Interview +Giveaway

IT'S DAY SIX! ALMOST A WEEK!

Today, I have with me the author of one of the FUNNIEST books I've read this year, Kurt Dinan talking about his prank-filled masterpiece, Don't Get Caught!

Read my 5 why you need Don't Get Caught in your life

1. Describe your five main characters in one sentence each, and tell us what they're doing together:

Max - The ultimate average kid but with an exceptional understanding of heist film strategies and schemes that will allow him to take on a 40-year-old secret society.
Ellie - On the outside she's the boring girl next door, but on the inside she's wild and unpredictable.
Wheeler - His goal for high school is to graduate last in his class--what more do you need to know?
Adleta - Everyone thinks he's dumb because he's the best athlete in the school, but looks can be deceiving.
Malone - Artistic, skeptical, and intelligent, but best known for a sexting scandal her sophomore year.

2. Which one of the best five do you best relate to?
I probably relate to Max that most because I spent a lot of high school feeling like I didn't know where I fit in.  I had friends, sure, but not a core group of friends.  I also underachieved a great deal.  So let this be a lesson to you kids, if you underachieve in school, you'll end up selling a novel!

3. According to you, what would be the best prank to ever/ that has been be pulled? (In the book, or in real life)
I've written about this elsewhere, but I think the Super Bowl Halftime Show is primed for a prank.  A live event with hundreds of millions of viewers, and all of those "fans" on the field cheering for their favorite band performing...something amazing is bound to happen eventually, right?

4. What is the best thing you've heard a reader say about your book so far?

All of the feedback on the book so far has been really positive, but I'm happiest when people refer to the book as hilarious and fun.  That was my goal when I wrote it.  I wanted to give readers a fast, fun, and funny ride that focuses on the lighter side of teenage life.  Also, one reader said the book was destined to be a cult classic, which for a nerd like me is the ultimate compliment.

5. What was the day you found out you were going to get published like?

I had actually gone into the YMCA to run, and when I came out there was a voicemail from my agent, Kerry Sparks with the news. I didn't save the voicemail, but I can still hear the happiness in her voice.  I think my family celebrated by getting carryout instead of cooking dinner because we're always looking for a reason to eat out.
Kurt Dinan lives and teaches high school English in Cincinnati.  He grew up with John Hughes movies, embarrassingly average grades, and a staggering amount of rejection from girls.  His first concert was Weird Al Yankovic, which probably explains his failure with girls.  DON'T GET CAUGHT is his first novel.

Blurb Description: 10:00 tonight at the water tower. Tell no one. -Chaos Club
When Max receives a mysterious invite from the untraceable, epic prank-pulling Chaos Club, he has to ask: why him? After all, he's Mr. 2.5 GPA, Mr. No Social Life. He's Just Max. And his favorite heist movies have taught him this situation calls for Rule #4: Be suspicious. But it's also his one shot to leave Just Max in the dust...
Yeah, not so much. Max and four fellow students-who also received invites-are standing on the newly defaced water tower when campus security "catches" them. Definitely a setup. And this time, Max has had enough. It's time for Rule #7: Always get payback.
Let the prank war begin.

Thanks so much for being here, Kurt! It's been an absolute pleasure talking to you!
